Dr. Wainer graduated from Midwestern University in 1983. He completed his Family Medicine Residency and MacNeal Hospital in 1986 where he was the chief resident. He became board certified by the American board of Family Medicine in 1986 and has maintained his board certification during all that time.
Over the years, Dr. Wainer has participated in multiple hospital-based committees he also served as the assistant medical director of the MacNeal dependency treatment center, which was a 28 bed inpatient detox program at MacNeal Hospital. Since 2007 Dr. Wainer has been the Medical Director of the outpatient chemical dependency program at MacNeal Hospital.
After almost 40 years in practice, Dr. Wainer feels that the best way to care for patients is to have an understanding of who they are and what their needs and wants are. Medical decisions should be a shared responsibility between the physician and the patient ensuring a better overall outcome. Dr. Wainer has always felt it was an honor to be part of his patient’s family and feels a deep responsibility to his patients.
Within his general medical practice, Dr. Wainer also sees many patients in various stages of alcohol and drug recovery. He tries to support them with a healthy lifestyle and relapse prevention.
