Dr. Wainer graduated from Midwestern University in 1983. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at MacNeal Hospital in 1986, where he was also the Chief Resident. He became Board Certified in by the American Board of Family Medicine 1986 and continues his recertification on a regular basis. He is also a board-certified in Addiction Medicine.
Over the years, Dr Wainer has participated in, and has been Chairperson of, multiple hospital-based committees. Currently, Dr. Wainer is the Medical Director of the Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program at MacNeal Hospital.
After more than 30 years in practice, having had experience caring for four generations of some families, Dr. Wainer feels that the best way to care for patients is to have an understanding of who they are and what their needs and wants are. He believes that medical decisions should be a shared responsibility between the physician and the patient; better overall care and outcomes are assured when this type of relationship is established. Within his general medical practice, Dr Wainer also sees many patients in various stages of alcohol and drug recovery. He tries to support them with a healthy lifestyle and relapse prevention.
Outside of medicine Dr. Wainer enjoys woodworking, gardening, raising salt water fish, and hiking. He is married to Dr. Lori Weiss, his partner in both medical practice and life‘s journeys.
